Sitting at 3-5x times heavier than your regular comforter, a weighted blanket is proven to reduce your anxiety, increase your sense of calm and give you a deeper sleep.
You will fall asleep faster and wake up feeling more refreshed too.
After all our research on the benefits of bamboo fabric, we knew that we had to get a weighted blanket made of bamboo fabric for ourselves. We definitely recommend you to get a bamboo weighted blanket like this blanket from YNM, a reputable weighted blanket company on Amazon (you can also find this on Lazada) – Bamboo fabric is a cellulose fiber that is used as the top most layer of the weighted blanket due to its softness, smoothness, breathability, and durability, which helps you stay fresh, cool and luxurious. The bamboo fabric also sustains temperature fairly well. Much like silk, it keeps people cool when it’s warm, and warm when it’s colder out. So you can use your blanket all year round.
Weighted blankets tend to have a total of 7 layers and the materials used are breathable with moisture wicking management to help you stay comfortable at night.
Weighted Blankets also uses the principles of Deep Touch Pressure (DTP) to improve one’s relaxation. They are usually filled with beads (made of glass or clay etc) that are evenly distributed throughout the blanket. This ensures that the weight conforms to your body while remaining evenly distributed, giving you the feeling of weighted physical pressure which results in a calming effect.
For the best results, you will need to choose the right size and correct weight for yourself and your bed. Below is a size chart that you can reference to understand what is the most recommended weighted blanket for your body type.
Weighted Blanket Size Chart
Weighted blankets should be prioritised to fit the body rather than the bed. Therefore, the size of weighted blankets will be smaller than normal blankets and will likely not cover the entire bed. However, if you really want to share your weighted blanket with your partner, you can refer to the size chart below for the recommended size.
Here is a size chart for the 3x most common Weighted Blanket sizes: 48″x72″, 60″x80″, 80″x87″ (blankets have been placed on their recommended bed size):
Remarks:
1. The King Blanket (80″x87″) is also suitable for Queen sized beds (it will cover the whole bed).
2. The above diagram is to show the relation of the blanket to the bed. You may consider getting a bigger (or smaller) blanket than the one shown on your bed’s size.
Recommended Weighted Blanket Size/Weight Chart
You will want to make sure you get a weighted blanket that’s around 10% of your body weight.
In other words, if you weigh 150 pounds, a 15-pound blanket will be appropriate for your needs. If 10% of your weight falls between 2 weights of a blanket, you may choose the heavier blanket.
Here’s a guide for you to decide which blanket weight is best for you.
Your Weight | Recommended Blanket Weight | Best Blanket size(s) |
1x Child/Adult (71-100 lbs / 33-45kg) | 10lbs / 4.5kg | Throw (Slightly smaller than a twin size) |
1x Child/Adult (101-120 lbs / 46-55kg) | 12lbs / 5.5kg | Throw or Twin |
1x Adult (121-150 lbs / 55-68kg) | 15lbs / 6.8kg | Twin or Queen |
1-2 Adults (Total weight: 151-200 lbs / 68-91kg) | 20lbs / 9.1kg | Queen or King |
2x Adults (Total weight: <92-150kg)) | 25lbs / 11.34kg | King |
Remarks:
1. The blankets’ weights are rounded up to the nearest lbs/kg.
2. The recommended weight may not be your preference. If you weigh towards the lower end of the recommended blanket’s weight, you may consider choosing the weighted blanket that is of a lower weight.
3. If 2 persons are using the weighted blanket (blankets that are recommended for 2x persons are stated in the table above), recommended total weight for both persons added together should not be more than the Recommended Weighted Blanket Weight mentioned.
