Want to hide your printer in a cabinet? 6 things you need to take note of.

Do you need a printer in your home but hate how out of place it will look? Me too! By hiding your printer in a cabinet, you fulfill the need of having a printer and also fulfill your need of an aesthetically pleasing space. There are certain things that you need to take note of, before you purchase your printer and before you build or purchase your printer cabinet.

Here are the 6 points you need to take note of to ensure that you absolutely love your printer cabinet.

1. Printer Dimensions

First you need to take note of the printer dimensions you want. Do you want your cabinet to be as narrow as possible while still being able to house a printer in it? If so you should take note of the depth of your printer.

2. Your sitting position from the printer

In order to ensure a seamless connection between your laptop and your printer, your sitting position (basically your study area or wherever you do your work at) needs to be facing towards the printer and preferably within 5 meters.

3. Location of cabinet

Do you plan to print often? Will it be disruptive for other members of your household if you constantly go to the printer to collect whatever you are printing? If you, you need to place your printer cabinet at a location that will not be a deterrent to the other members of your household.

4. Space for printer supplies

Likely you will need space to store your printer paper, ink cartridge, and other things you may need as your printer supplies. Hence, you need to think about what you want to place in your printer cabinet and cater the necessary space for these items.

5. Any additional electronics you want to hide

Will there be any other electronic items that you plan to store in the same cabinet as your printer? With all the interesting electronic products launching these days, such as 3D Printers, or cutting machines like Cricut or Silhouette, you may want to consider setting aside some space for these items in case you want to get them in the future.

6. Have enough sockets in the cabinet for your printer and other electronics

You need sockets to charge your printer and all the other electronics in your printer cabinet. Therefore, if you plan to engage a carpenter to build your cabinet, please remember to inform them that you intend to place a printer and other electronics in this cabinet AND remember to provide accurate dimensions. Once your cabinet is built, it will be costly to have to rebuild it again.

If you plan to get a loose cabinet, please make sure that there are holes big enough for cables to go through, so you can easily plug them to your printer and other electronics.

That’s it! All the best with your new printer cabinet!
