Bamboo Fabric – 7 Benefits and Advantages

Thanks to modern manufacturing, bamboo pulp is now capable of creating bamboo fiber which can be used to make fabric and yarn.

Bamboo fabric is a natural textile made from the pulp of the bamboo grass.  It is created by first pulping bamboo grass till it is separated into thin threads of fibre. The fiber is then spun and dyed for weaving into cloth.

Here are the top 7 reasons why the Bamboo Fabric is good for you.

1. Anti-bacterial and a Natural Deodorant

Many perfumes that people use to smell pleasant contain plenty of chemicals.  A way to overcome this is to take advantage of the deodorising properties of bamboo in your clothing.

Bamboo is a natural deodorant as it is aggressively anti-bacterial. It has a natural property called bamboo kun that kills up to 70% of any bacteria attempting to incubate on the bamboo, be it in its natural form or fabric. Therefore, wearing bamboo or sleeping on bamboo fabric keeps you odor free and feeling fresh.

2. Soft

Bamboo is luxuriously soft and can look and feel like silk or very soft cotton. Many people who experience allergic reactions to other natural fibers, such as, wool do not complain of this issue with bamboo. The fiber is naturally smooth and round without chemical treatment, meaning that there are no sharp spurs to irritate the skin.

3. No allergic reaction

Many people are allergic to natural fibers, such as wool. Bamboo has had the smallest number of allergic reactions with people, barely having any.

4. Breathable

Healthy skin can’t be confined inside tight clothing all the time. Especially clothing made of plastic materials such as polyester. This can lead to rashes and other skin problems.

The bamboo fabric is breathable and does not cling to the skin even when you are sweating profusely. This is because the bamboo fabric is highly sweat absorbant that pulls moisture from the skin for evaporation (also known as moisture wicking). The wet skin does not have time to build up bacteria and hence prevents rashes that wet skin can develop when irritated.

5. Durable and Long lasting

The Bamboo plant’s main component is silicic acid, which gives the shoot its durability and hardness, which also explains its astonishing strength and flexibility. This means that your bamboo clothing and bedding can last you for many years to come.

6. Sustains temperature

Bamboo fabric is amazing in that it sustains a temperature fairly well. Much like silk, it keeps people cool when it’s warm, and warm when it’s colder out. Hence, clothing made from the bamboo material can be worn during summer and during winter.

7. UV Protectant

The reason many beach cover ups are being made with bamboo is because bamboo naturally blocks the harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. This is important for healthy skin.
